The other team may have looped in a third party.

There are two main scenarios depending on the 3rd party person’s role:

  • If the 3rd party person has a specific role (such as an advisor, lawyer, or accountant) in the context of the deal, then they serve a functional role. This may indicate that the deal is moving forward.

Keep in mind, however, that this third-party person has previous attachments and obligations to your prospect. Those motivations may cause them to try and please your prospect by taking a hard line.

  • If the 3rd party person does not serve a functional role maybe your prospect is introducing you to someone else since they are not interested in what you're offering.

If the scenario is different from the above, then it's probably a bit too early to tell. You'll want to stay alert to social cues and changes in the social dynamics.
